Born in Quincy, Illinois, to Walter E. and Deloris (Koenig) Reed, Ron grew up embracing the values of perseverance and community. A 1955 graduate of Howe High School, he embarked on a path defined by bold ventures and cherished pastimes. A serendipitous blind date in 1956 introduced him to Marcia, his lifelong partner, whom he married in 1958. Their union spanned 67 years, a testament to enduring companionship. Ron's world revolved around creating opportunities, nurturing relationships, and savoring moments like golf outings, bowling games, Hershey chocolate treats, and scenic cruises alongside loved ones.
Ron launched his professional journey at Sonith Foundry before teaming up with his father to establish R&W Bronze and Aluminum, showcasing his knack for innovation in manufacturing. He later ventured into hospitality by opening a Pizza Barn, blending business acumen with a welcoming touch. Retirement allowed him to pour his energy into grandparenting as 'Papaw Wally,' becoming the ultimate storyteller and playmate for his grandchildren.

Married to Marcia (Gasaway) for 67 years, he raised six children—Robert (Denise), Ronald, Lori Harner (Mike), Lisa Crawford (Brian), Julie Sears, and Richard (Sara)—while doting on 13 grandchildren including Jon (Cheyenne), Brandon (Krista), Dana (Pat), Kim (Jake), Justin, Melinda, Nicole, Kyle (Sarah), Michelle (Jake), Brittney (Josh), Hayley (Joe), and Hannah, plus 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Huffman and her children, yet his home remained a hub of laughter and shared adventures.
