Born in Indianapolis to John L. McCord and Eleanor B. McCord, Susan built a life rich in exploration and generosity. A graduate of Broad Ripple High School and Indiana University, she embraced diverse passions—from underwater adventures across the globe to nurturing animals at the zoo. Even in her final years facing dementia, her radiant smile upon hearing favorite tunes revealed the joyful essence that defined her.

Susan L. Mocas's legacy lives on through their family and loved ones:

  • Susan raised three children with deep love and later cherished time with her grandchildren. An active participant at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, she supported various groups and the wider congregation. Her thrill-seeking side shone in the Midwest Divers Scuba Club, where she earned advanced PADI certifications including Rescue Diver, diving from icy Indiana quarries to the vibrant reefs of the Bahamas, Papua New Guinea, and Fiji.
