Steve devoted decades to the legal field, embodying public service as an Indiana Deputy Attorney General, Hendricks County Deputy Prosecutor, and Marion County Public Defender. Complementing these roles, he built a thriving private practice in Indianapolis, advocating tirelessly for clients while mentoring peers. His educational path—from a Ball State University economics degree to a Juris Doctor from McKinney School of Law—fueled a lifelong quest for equitable justice and community betterment.

McNutt, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Howard P. Marvel (Mary) and Norman L. Foster; sister-in-law, Janet Marvel (Albert Fowerbaugh); and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Preceded by his parents, Paul L. McNutt and Gertrude Dougan McNutt, and sister-in-law Carol Marvel Foster, he nurtured bonds that echoed with laughter and steadfast support.
