Life & Legacy
Ronald L. Ray built a remarkable life rooted in passion for soccer, family unity, and resilient humor, leaving an enduring mark on Indiana's sports community and the hearts of those who knew him.
Born in Indianapolis to Cleo Bernard 'Bernie' and Trena Ray, Ron embraced every opportunity to connect through sports and shared endeavors. His enthusiasm for his daughters' soccer games sparked a deeper involvement, evolving from eager spectator to dedicated coach and statewide leader. Amid these pursuits, he balanced a steady career, co-managed a family construction venture, and wove traditions like communal leaf-raking into the fabric of home life. Ron's ability to infuse humor into challenges defined his approach, turning ordinary moments into sources of joy and strength for his loved ones.
Ron's soccer journey propelled him to coach youth teams, direct Indiana's Olympic Development Program, and lead the Indiana High School Coaches Association's statewide tournament until 1994. He crafted foundational guidelines that continue to influence high school competitions today. In parallel, he and his wife Tanya established TanRon Homes, a family-operated business that instilled practical skills in their children while sustaining their livelihood. His efforts earned him a well-deserved spot in the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame in 2013, honoring his pivotal role in elevating women's soccer across the state.
