Life & Legacy
Rita Rae Cook crafted a life of unwavering devotion, turning everyday moments into cherished bonds despite the unyielding challenges of Multiple Sclerosis, leaving an indelible mark of kindness and presence on all who knew her.
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Charles E. and Virginia M. (Henderson) Kimberlin, Rita embraced her roots in the heart of the city. She navigated her high school years at Arlington High, earning her diploma in 1965 amid the vibrant energy of mid-1960s America. Just a year later, on August 12, 1966, she united in marriage with Stephen W. Cook, embarking on a profound partnership that spanned 59 years filled with mutual support and shared adventures. Even as Multiple Sclerosis shaped her path from an early age, Rita refused to let it dim her spirit, pouring her energy into nurturing those around her and savoring journeys to distant lands like Hawaii and Italy before her mobility waned.
Rita dedicated her early professional years to the Social Security Administration, bringing her diligence and care to public service. She later chose to step away, embracing the vital role of full-time mother, where her nurturing influence extended far beyond any office walls.
Family & Loved Ones
Rita's world revolved around the joy of family connections, where she shone as a pillar of encouragement for her husband Stephen of 59 years, children Jeffrey (Deanna) Cook and Amber (Nathan) Hiscock, seven grandchildren—Cody (Pauline), Emmalee (Brandon), Keegan, Kennedy, Braden, Savannah, and Delaney—and two great-grandchildren, Aria and Maverick. Her gentle enthusiasm lit up their lives, from cheering at school events and sports to quiet afternoons coloring or tackling math homework together, always offering words of wisdom wrapped in warmth. She preceded in death by parents Charles and Virginia Kimberlin, and great-grandson Owen.
