Life & Legacy

Paul Warren Makinson crafted a life rich with intellectual curiosity, harmonious melodies, steadfast faith, and unwavering family bonds, leaving an indelible mark on all who crossed his path.

Born in Florence, Alabama, Paul emerged as an exceptional scholar from his earliest days, delivering the high school salutatorian address and earning acclaim as the ideal pupil among his educators. His academic journey took him from trumpet studies at the University of North Alabama to an associate's in Computer Technology at Ivy Tech, a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Technology earned amid fatherhood to four young ones, and ultimately a Master of Science in Engineering Management from Purdue. Relentless in his pursuit of excellence, he refined his research papers meticulously until they shone. Music wove through his existence, from choir performances at Castleview Church to the College Park Church Orchestra and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis, trumpet in hand. A man of profound faith, he drew strength from the Heart of a Man Bible study. In his inventive spirit, Paul launched The Coloring Book Channel on YouTube, offering a treasure trove of videos to inspire creativity and calm.

Paul's professional path began with hands-on roles like installing RV siding at Skyline and quality-testing trumpets for Vincent Bach. Relocating to Indianapolis in 1985, he immersed himself in computer technology at Indiana Bell, advancing through its evolutions into Ameritech, SBC, and AT&T. There, he excelled in key positions such as Operations Manager and Design Manager, dedicating nearly four decades before retiring in 2022.

Family & Loved Ones

Cherished rituals like dawn coffee and tea on the porch, Sudoku challenges, bookish evenings, fine meals out, and quiet nights by the pond defined the profound companionship Paul shared with his wife Cindy, whom he met in youth and wed in 1978. Their union blossomed swiftly with the arrival of four children—Matt (Megan), Andrew (Mary), Shara (Greg), and Justin (Krista)—over the next six years. A beacon of spiritual guidance, he initiated prayers at meals and family assemblies, while his athletic enthusiasm shone through tennis matches and cheering at his kids' sports events. As a grandfather to 12, his playful side sparkled in board games, coloring sessions, Perler bead crafts, basement adventures, dances with granddaughters, and playground outings. His thoughtful counsel on careers was a gift his children treasured, delivered with patience and insight. He was also survived by brother Mark (Jackie), and preceded by parents Leroy and Midge Hibbs, and brother Lee James.

Remembered by Friends & Family
