Life & Legacy

Paul E. Miller crafted a life of steadfast faith, playful humor, and unwavering family devotion, leaving behind a tapestry of cherished memories from his early sacrifices to his joyful travels in later years.

Born in North Canton, Ohio, to Atlee and Emma (Troyer) Miller, Paul embraced responsibility early when his family relocated to Florida. He left school to assist his father in a mowing business, helping sustain them through tough times. In 1952, he enlisted in the Air Force, serving as a firefighter during the Korean War and developing a profound patriotism that led him to proudly display the American flag. Stationed in Indianapolis, he spotted Goldie Hopkins at a soda fountain and, after persistent courtship, won her heart for a first date at the Circle Theater. The couple wed during his service, building a home filled with children Debra, Paul Jr., and Christopher. Following Goldie's passing in 2000, Paul found companionship with Shirley Shipp, marrying her in 2003 and delighting in cruises and Florida winters until her death in 2024. A man of deep faith, Paul worshiped at Bethany Chapel, marveling at Christ's sacrifice, and filled family time with euchre games, teaching graciousness in defeat amid laughter and his signature puns—like claiming 'nobody has more fun than people, except maybe spider monkeys.'

Paul's professional journey centered on a 30-year tenure at General Motors, where he labored diligently until retiring in 1998. Earlier, his Air Force service as a Korean War firefighter honed his sense of duty, while his teenage years supporting the family mowing business instilled a strong work ethic that carried through his decades of reliable contributions to industry and community.

Family & Loved Ones

Paul poured his energy into nurturing bonds that spanned generations, from his first marriage to Goldie—blessed with children Debra (Caleb Good), Paul Jr. (Eileen), and Christopher (Cheri)—to his union with Shirley, marked by shared adventures. His playful spirit shone at gatherings, where card games sparked endless chuckles and lessons in resilience. As a grandfather to Aaron (Lyndsay), Brittany Clark, Joshua (Miranda), Jeremy (Heather), Caleb (Mercy), Emily, Joseph (Rosalyn), Jonathan, Emma, and William Miller and Good, he reveled in their company, extending his role to eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Survived by sister Alice Ralph, Paul's quick-witted presence remains a treasured echo in their lives.
