Born in Columbus, Ohio, to Robert and Edith 'Jackie' McKenzie, Pat grew into a man whose passions intertwined spiritual dedication with a love for learning and the outdoors. He pursued higher education with purpose, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Ohio State University in 1977, followed by a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1980. Embracing the Evangelical Orthodox Church, he devoted himself to ministry roles including deacon, priest, parish council member, and Sunday School teacher at Holy Trinity and St. Paul the Apostle Evangelical Orthodox Church in Indianapolis until his final days. Beyond his ecclesiastical calling, Pat found delight in tending gardens, exploring the trails of Hocking Hills, delving into historical narratives, and animatedly supporting OSU games—often with a telltale chew mark on his shirt collar.

Pat's professional journey spanned 40 years in commercial parts sales, launching in 1981 under Gary Allen at Commercial Parts & Services and culminating with the Allen family at Vanco Commercial until his 2021 retirement. His long tenure reflected reliability and expertise that strengthened industry ties and supported countless operations.
