Born and raised in Indianapolis to Margaret Thecla (Denk) and John Joseph O'Donnell, Nick grew up as the eldest of seven siblings. A proud alumnus of Cathedral High School, he pursued studies at Indiana University, where his lifelong devotion to the Hoosiers took root. Remarkably, he witnessed the team's triumphant Rose Bowl victory over Alabama on his final full day. Known for his sharp one-liners that sparked laughter among family and friends, Nick embraced every opportunity to bring levity to those around him, especially during visits from his great nieces and nephews.
Nick's professional journey began in the automotive conditioning sector, where he honed his skills over several years at Car Brite. He later found his stride in property management, dedicating the bulk of his career to Buckingham Companies in Indianapolis. Rising to Senior Director of Capital Expenditures, he retired in 2024, having built a network of colleagues who valued his expertise and camaraderie. His commitment to his work was a source of great personal pride.
Family & Loved Ones
Cherished gatherings with his great nieces and nephews brought out Nick's playful side, as he eagerly anticipated their visits with stories and quips that filled the room with delight. His mother, Margaret Thecla O'Donnell, remains, alongside his son Christopher O'Donnell. As the trailblazing oldest of seven, he shared deep connections with siblings Patricia Griffey, Joan O'Donnell, Tim (April) O'Donnell, Maureen (Paul) Rumer, John (Robyn) O'Donnell, and Mary Ruth (Pete) Rumer, plus a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews whose lives he brightened.
