Born in Toledo, Ohio, to Robert Lamar and Willa Mae Pearson, Jewell developed an early fascination with tinkering and discovery. By age 15, he was immersed in the automotive world under his Uncle Bennie's guidance, igniting a lifelong romance with engines and high-performance machines. This spark propelled him into the United States Air Force in 1960, where he excelled as a Flight Leader amid the Vietnam War era, honing skills in discipline and command over nearly eight years. Returning to civilian life, he channeled that same resolve into academics and professional growth, balancing a demanding job with higher education. His passion for cars never waned—he restored classics, raced competitively, and reveled in club camaraderie. Later in life, a profound spiritual awakening brought him solace through faith in Jesus, filling his final chapter with peace and thankfulness.

Joining General Motors in 1968, he advanced steadily while earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Purdue University amid full-time duties. Retiring in 2001 after over three decades, he left behind a reputation for reliability, innovative problem-solving, and enduring workplace bonds that spoke to his collaborative spirit.
