Life & Legacy

Maurice 'Maury' D. Rohleder crafted a vibrant legacy of athletic prowess, steadfast service, and boundless generosity, touching countless lives through his infectious enthusiasm and unwavering commitment to others over nine remarkable decades.

Born as the firstborn among ten siblings in the small town of Ireland, Indiana, Maury embraced an active youth filled with high school triumphs in baseball, basketball, and football. His sense of duty led him to the U.S. Navy, where he honed mechanical skills on an aircraft carrier through the Korean War era. Returning home, he dove into college life at Evansville College—now the University of Evansville—excelling in sports, fraternity brotherhood with Sigma Phi Epsilon, and campus activities that earned him accolades. By 1958, he held a Bachelor of Arts in Business Education, setting the stage for a life of leadership and engagement. Faith anchored him deeply; as a founding pillar of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, he outshone even the clergy in attendance, leading the Knights of Columbus as Charter Grand Knight and Fourth Degree member. His volunteer spirit shone at church festivals, blood drives, fish fries, Gibault Children's Services, and Lord's Pantry. An eternal optimist with a radiant smile, Maury turned strangers into friends, lingered at every social event, and championed laughter until his final days. His seventy-plus years as a blood donor—totaling over 35 gallons—embodied his belief in selfless giving as a path to vitality.

Maury forged a distinguished path at Prudential Insurance in life and retirement planning, where his passion for guiding clients toward secure tomorrows stood out. A natural mentor, he nurtured agents with wisdom and encouragement, embodying tireless dedication by working part-time right up to age 90, leaving an indelible mark on his professional circle.

Family & Loved Ones

Cherished moments with loved ones defined Maury's world, from fishing adventures on Lake Erie alongside brothers and grandchildren to the profound partnership he nurtured with Lois Folz after their 1962 wedding, a union that flourished for nearly 50 years until her passing in 2012. Daughters Michele (John Starkey) and Andrea (Paul Lipps) brought him immense joy, as did grandchildren Connor and Jenna Starkey and Rachel Duffley. His close-knit ties endured with sisters Mary Bohnert, MaDonna (Lloyd) Taylor, Agnes (Brian) Kelly, and Barbara 'Jeanie' (Richard) Weisman, brothers Dennis (Carolyn) Rohleder and Stephen (Mary) Rohleder, sister-in-law Linda (Sermersheim) Rohleder, plus a host of nieces and nephews—bonds fortified by his ever-present humor and helping hand.

Remembered by Friends & Family

Tributes pouring in from Maury's wide circle capture a spirited soul whose zest for life and readiness to serve left an enduring glow in hearts everywhere, with recurring notes on his magnetic charm and selfless deeds.
