Born in Indianapolis to Greek immigrants Paul John and Stella V. Gianakos, Mary Pauline Albean grew up embracing her heritage while excelling in academics. She graduated from Shortridge High School in 1950 and went on to Butler University, earning a degree in Journalism and English in 1954 as a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Her path wove together professional achievements, community involvement, and a devoted marriage to George Lawrence 'Larry' Albean, whom she wed on March 15, 1959. Active in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the Ladies Philoptochos Society, Mary infused her days with faith, fellowship, and quiet acts of kindness until her final years in Carmel, Indiana.
Mary launched her career at the Indianapolis News, spending six years on the copy desk for the women's pages, where her keen eye for detail shaped engaging content. She later brought her talents to retail, working at the downtown L.S. Ayres Department Store and Jacobson's at the Fashion Mall, contributing her journalistic precision and warm demeanor to customer experiences and team dynamics.

Mary poured her nurturing energy into her marriage with Larry, building a home filled with shared adventures and steadfast companionship until his passing in 2003. Her two sons, David (Sharon) and Matthew (Karen), along with grandchildren Bo, Kate, Zoe (Michael Johnson), and Elena, were the joyful center of her world, where holiday gatherings echoed with stories of Greek traditions and her gentle guidance. She remained close to her sister Georgia (Buchanan), and cherished connections with nieces Cynthia (Bill) Longest and Lisa Gianakos, as well as nephews Paul (Cheri) Gianakos and Bryan Hadin, even after losing her parents, brother John (Violet), and sister Athena (Robert) Wright.
