Life & Legacy

Mark Edward Allen Sr. crafted a vibrant life defined by unshakeable faith, tireless dedication to those he cherished, and an infectious zest that drew people in, leaving an enduring mark through his generosity and spirited presence.

Born into a bustling household in Indianapolis as the fourth of nine siblings to Raymond Udell Allen Sr. and Betty Jane Allen, Mark's early years at Riverside School 44 and George Washington High School instilled values of perseverance and community. Embracing Christianity young, he wove spirituality into every chapter, from his stylish teenage paper route days—saving for sharp clothes from Harry Levinson's—to his lifelong flair for Air Force 1 sneakers and impeccable outfits. Music pulsed through his gatherings as the go-to DJ, spinning vinyl and CDs amid bowling outings, card games, garage chats filled with banter and sports, and savory feasts of candied yams or spaghetti-infused mac. A die-hard Colts and Pacers fan since the '70s, he savored Fridays at Connie's and grilling sessions that sparked joy. Facing amyloidosis with grit, he co-founded Change of Heart Inc. with his daughter to spotlight the condition and uplift affected families, embodying resilience until the end.

Mark launched his professional journey at General Motors in March 1977 as a crane operator, earning respect for his exemplary ethic, natural leadership, and bonds with colleagues that felt like kinship. Retiring in 2016, he seamlessly transitioned to A+ Childcare, his daughters' venture, directing facility operations and transportation—delighting the kids with humor, endless patience, and sweet surprises that made him a beloved figure.
