Born in Chicago's Pullman District to Sam and Helen Cohen, Lois developed an early appreciation for creativity and connection. Her path took her to Indiana University, where she not only pursued her studies but also found a lifelong companion in Sidney Eskenazi, with whom she shared over seven decades of marriage. The couple settled in Indianapolis, nurturing a home filled with inspiration and warmth. Lois's gentle spirit shone through in her everyday interactions, where she made others feel truly seen and appreciated without ever seeking the spotlight.

A talented artist proficient in oils and pastels, Lois showcased her work at prestigious venues like the Hoosier Salon and Indiana State Fair, earning accolades for pieces that vividly conveyed human emotion and introspection. Beyond her canvas, she and Sidney channeled their passions into lasting philanthropy, establishing the Sidney D. & Lois Eskenazi Hospital and Health Foundation. Their devotion to Indiana University culminated in endowing the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art and the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design. She also treasured her involvement in the Women's Philanthropic Colloquium, forging enduring friendships along the way.

Her warmth extended to numerous nieces and nephews, such as Mindy (Crandus) Sircus, Larry Crandus, Esther Harris, Joellyn Stoliar, Sanford Cohen, and Jay Stein.
