Life & Legacy

Kamya Lyn Paddack Reed illuminated the lives of everyone she encountered with her radiant beauty, infectious laughter, and profound wisdom, leaving an indelible mark of grace and unwavering love.

Born in Indianapolis on the last day of 1983, Kamya grew into a woman of remarkable strength and independence, shaped by a childhood that tested her resilience yet fueled her vibrant spirit. Her natural talents shone brightly in music, where her stunning voice and effortless mastery of instruments led her to perform in England's grand cathedrals during high school tours with Brownsburg's Band and Madrigals Choir. Kamya embraced life's joys through serene pursuits—strolling park paths, savoring books on quiet porches, or finding solace in rain's rhythm and ocean waves. A devoted animal lover, she doted on her dogs Duchess, Phoebe, Bob, and Lola, and couldn't resist rescuing strays on sight. Her quick wit, thoughtful counsel, and readiness to lend a hand made her a cherished presence, always grounding others in the moment's true value. Facing a three-year fight against Stage IV colon cancer diagnosed in 2022, she defied grim prognoses with noble perseverance, prioritizing her loved ones' futures until her peaceful departure in 2025.

Kamya balanced motherhood and ambition with extraordinary determination, earning a double major in Finance and Supply-Chain Management from IUPUI's esteemed Kelley School of Business. Despite grueling schedules—late-night work shifts followed by dawn adventures with her daughter and full-time studies—she prioritized excellence, showcasing her sharp intellect and unyielding drive in professional pursuits that demanded both cunning strategy and wise insight.

As a single mother, she crafted magical outings to zoos, museums, and parks for daughter Reagan, even on scant sleep, ensuring her child's world brimmed with wonder. Her romance with husband Bernard Reed blossomed from a classroom collaboration into a lifetime of tender milestones—from symphony dates and Paris proposals to their elegant 2019 wedding at Newfields—infusing their home with joy and stability. She remained the protective big sister to Rachel Colburn, guided by mother Donna Paddack Kocher's encouragement to forge her own path, while treasuring time with Grandma Kocher, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, and a wide circle of friends whose lives she enriched with her gentle, supportive spirit.
