Life & Legacy
Joyce Ann Baker crafted a life rich with family joys, quiet professional dedication, and simple pleasures like capturing moments through her lens and nurturing blooming gardens, leaving behind a tapestry of cherished memories in Indiana.
Born in Bedford, Indiana, as the youngest of eight siblings, Joyce grew up surrounded by the warmth of a large family in Lawrence County. After completing her education at Bedford High School, she ventured to Indianapolis, where she built a home and career. Her world expanded in 1966 upon meeting Von David Baker, leading to a devoted marriage the following year at Bell's Chapel Church of God. Together, they raised a family while Joyce balanced work, volunteering, and later, full immersion in homemaking. Retirement in 2002 allowed her to pour her energy into travels to Virginia Beach and Zionsville, attending grandchildren's games and performances, and tending her flower gardens each summer.
Joyce excelled as an accountant and bookkeeper in Indianapolis before her children were grown. She then volunteered and later served as assistant to the librarian at Perry Meridian Middle School until her retirement in 2002, supporting education with her organizational skills and warm presence.
Family & Loved Ones
Joyce's days revolved around the laughter and milestones of her loved ones, from early mornings photographing grandchildren at play to cross-country drives for family reunions. She and husband Von David Baker welcomed three children—Vanessa Ann, who passed in infancy, Christopher David, and Gretchen Ann (Loyola)—along with four grandchildren: Kennedy Jane Baker, Zoe Elise Baker, Isabel Ann Loyola, and Josefina Ann Loyola; plus three step-grandchildren: Loren Baker, Drew Baker, and Tommy Baker. Her early years with sisters Marilyn (Olden), Etta Mae (Peyton), and Rita Gayle (Keller), and brothers Frank, Jack, Jesse, and Edford Chambers II, shaped her into a steadfast nurturer whose gentle encouragement touched every gathering.
