Life & Legacy
Jesse D. Farmer, affectionately called 'Sarge,' left an indelible mark as a devoted mentor, military veteran, and community builder whose warmth and guidance shaped generations in Indianapolis.
Born in the small town of Emhouse, Texas, to Talmadge and Laura Mae Patrick Farmer, Jesse embarked on a remarkable journey that blended disciplined service with entrepreneurial spirit. His early years led him to the United States Army, where he honed skills as an Atomic Demolitions Expert across postings in Germany, Colorado, and Fort Benjamin Harrison. It was during his time overseas that he found enduring companionship with Rosemarie Schneider, forging a partnership that spanned continents and decades. Returning to civilian life, Jesse channeled his leadership into local ventures, fostering connections that mirrored the camaraderie he cherished from his service days. A natural connector, he thrived in social circles, particularly around his beloved game of poker, where he cultivated a tight-knit group bound by shared laughter and strategy.
Sarge's 17-year Army tenure as an Atomic Demolitions Expert exemplified his precision and bravery, serving at key stations including Germany and Fort Benjamin Harrison. Post-military, he and Rosemarie poured their energy into Sarge's To Your Door Pizza and the Park Terrace Motel, transforming these businesses into hubs where he mentored countless young people, instilling values of hard work and resilience that echoed his own disciplined background.
Family & Loved Ones
Jesse's world revolved around the unbreakable ties he nurtured with Rosemarie, his partner of 59 years until her passing in 2011, and their daughters who embodied his guiding influence—Margrit, a 35-year Army Brigadier General; Jacquelyn, a cat-loving retiree from Eli Lilly; and Deborah, who preceded him in 2008. He also cherished his granddaughter Kristina Merrick, a U.S. Navy Security Analyst, along with surviving sisters Barbara and Wiletta among his 10 siblings. Known for his outgoing charisma, Jesse created joyful spaces for family, blending protective instincts with infectious enthusiasm.
