Born in Indianapolis to Turley and Mary Thompson, Jean grew up embracing a spirit of service that defined her path. A lifelong resident of the city, she pursued her passion for helping others early on, channeling her talents into roles that brought comfort and care to countless individuals across decades.
After earning her nursing degree from Indianapolis Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1953, Jean dedicated her professional life to registered nursing. She spent many years tending to newborns at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, later extending her expertise as a school nurse and visiting nurse, always prioritizing patient well-being with skill and empathy.

She is survived by daughter Kimberly (Duane) Werling of Pendleton, son Evan Tuxhorn of Brandon, FL, grandchildren Elyse (Alex Schlegel) Werling, Kelsey (Kevin) Mellinger, Brooke Tuxhorn, Alex Tuxhorn, and great-grandson Oliver Mellinger; she was preceded in death by daughter Pamela Lee Tuxhorn. Known for her gentle guidance, she created a haven of warmth for loved ones, fostering bonds through everyday adventures and steadfast support.
