Life & Legacy

Jann Elizabeth Paul crafted a vibrant life marked by unwavering compassion, bold achievements, and an infectious zest for exploration, touching countless hearts even amid her courageous battle with Alzheimer's over nearly a decade.

From her early days in Atlanta, Georgia, born to Theodore and Geraldine Field, Jann grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, forging a path of academic excellence and spirited pursuits. She blossomed into an adventurous soul who danced with abandon, scoured shops with delight, and cheered passionately for icons like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Kenny Chesney. Her green thumb shone in cultivating orchids, matched only by her tender affection for animals, particularly her cherished teacup Yorkshire terriers, Sasha and Zozo. Jann's wanderlust found its truest haven in St. John, USVI, where the island's serene landscapes and inviting rhythms replenished her soul time and again. She channeled her vitality into local causes, leading Applefest to support Park Tudor School—where her children and grandchildren studied—and championing Christel House alongside the Indianapolis Pianists' Association.

Jann's professional ascent was remarkable, culminating as Vice President of Planning at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. There, she spearheaded a task force dedicated to adolescent and teen health, earning the prestigious Point of Light Award from President George H.W. Bush at the White House. Her master's in social work from Tulane University, following her studies at Oxford College of Emory, fueled her drive to uplift communities through innovative healthcare initiatives.

Family & Loved Ones

Cherished moments with loved ones formed the joyful rhythm of Jann's days, where her radiant energy wove unbreakable threads of connection. For over 50 years, she and her husband, Dr. Steven Paul, nurtured a profound partnership that withstood every trial, including the shadows of Alzheimer's. Her children—Morgan McGill, Jordan (Dr. Mark) Fisch, Dr. Aaron (Hannah) Paul, and Austin Paul—along with grandchildren Lila Clair, Eli Fisch, Benjamin Fisch, Maisie Paul, and Max Paul, were the lights of her world. As the devoted elder daughter, Jann held her parents, sister Joan Field, and brother Theodore Field close, her kindness a steady anchor for all.
