Life & Legacy

George William Robinson devoted his life to nurturing young spirits, championing sportsmanship, and weaving compassion into every corner of his world, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives through his unwavering kindness and faith-driven purpose.

From his roots in Ashland, Kentucky, George emerged as a beacon of empathy and inspiration. A man of profound intellect and creativity, he poured his energies into scholarly pursuits, including poetry and writing. In his final years, he immersed himself in crafting a biography of Dr. John Brown, the celebrated pediatric heart surgeon, channeling his passion for stories that honor human resilience. Guided by a deep Christian conviction, George embraced the inherent worth of every individual, prioritizing care for the vulnerable with a compassion shaped by extensive spiritual exploration.

In the 1970s, while at Methodist Hospital Children's Pavilion, George forged a lifelong bond with young Sherrie Thompson, stepping in as her foster parent and steadfast advocate after her tragic accident. By 1989, he took the helm as Athletic Director at First Baptist Athletics' youth sports program, launching the 'Campaign for Sportsmanship' and coining the enduring motto 'The Place for Good Sports.' His influence touched thousands of children, who flocked to him naturally. After retiring in 2013, he continued as a tutor, mentor, and cherished 'granddude' to many special kids, embodying athletic excellence and heartfelt guidance.

Family & Loved Ones

George's world revolved around the chosen kin he gathered close, from his brothers Milford (with Sue Hildebrandt) and Mark (with Nancy Lander) to a sprawling network of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended families like the Thompsons, Justine Muhoza with sons Olivier and Fabrigace, and the Mary and Kay Okunato family. Though he mourned the early losses of foster daughter Sherrie Thompson, parents Bill and Willa, and brother David, his gentle authority and quiet strength made him a magnetic figure for children, who sensed his instinctive warmth and reliability amid shared joys and trials.

Remembered by Friends & Family

Echoes from the community capture George's essence as a rare soul whose gentle wisdom and infectious enthusiasm for youth left hearts fuller and spirits brighter across generations.
