Life & Legacy
Evelyn M. Brown embodied the quiet strength of rural Indiana life, weaving threads of faith, family devotion, and unyielding warmth into a tapestry that enriched all who crossed her path.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Emil and Olga Scheifler, Evelyn's journey took her from the bustling city to the serene farmlands of Knightstown, where she embraced the rhythms of homemaking and community. Her days were filled with the nurturing spirit that defined her, always finding joy in the everyday blessings of country living and steadfast belief.
Evelyn's early career began remarkably young, stepping into the role of librarian at the St. Louis Public Library right after eighth grade—a position she held with immense pride. Later in life, she channeled her energies into dedicated homemaking on the family farm, while maintaining lifelong commitment as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 152, supporting veterans and their families with unwavering loyalty.
Family & Loved Ones
Evelyn's world revolved around the enduring connections she nurtured with her children—Lorraine J. Brown, Sharon A. Ginter, Evelyn M. Mogren, and Bruce E. Brown—as well as cherished grandchildren like Kenneth Winger Jr., Aaron and Benjamin Mogren, and Brittany Richey, extending her gentle care to great-granddaughters Raylea, Mallory, and Kamry Richey. Though she mourned the early losses of her husband Bruce, infant daughters Katherine and Nancy, siblings Emil, Bill, Elizabeth, and Olga, and grandson Curtis Winger, her resilient spirit shone through in the tender support she offered her surviving loved ones.
