Elva Nell 'Shortie' Brown crafted a vibrant life marked by tireless energy, unwavering faith, and a knack for turning everyday moments into cherished family traditions, leaving an indelible mark on all who crossed her path.
Born in the close-knit community of Murl, Kentucky, to Leslie and Essie Upchurch, Elva grew into a woman of remarkable drive and warmth. Known for her boundless stamina—often outpacing even her own siblings—she kept an impeccably spotless home that reflected her meticulous spirit. A devoted follower of Christ, she openly shared her faith, finding profound joy in its guiding light. Her passions extended to scouring garage sales for treasures, rooting enthusiastically for the Colts and Pacers during games, and perfecting her signature graham-cracker pie, a treat legendary among her loved ones.
Elva dedicated much of her professional life to the Chrysler Corporation, followed by years of service in Warren Township schools. There, she worked in school lunchrooms and later as a bus monitor, bringing her reliability and caring nature to support students and staff until her retirement.

Elva's world revolved around the simple pleasures of togetherness, where she poured her affection into her daughters Daphne LeAnn (Stephen) Hansen and Stephanie Annette (Brown) Martin, son Daniel Wayne (Jennifer) Brown, seven grandchildren—Liana (Nathan) Walden, Bethanie Martin, Shelbie Martin, Cameron (Tricia) Hansen, Hannah (Lucas) Garza, Taylor Brown, and Matthew Brown—and five great-grandchildren: Gabriel Walden, Betty Sue Hansen, Selah Walden, Zaiah Walden, and Wayne Hansen. She outlived her sister Eula VanNote, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and steadfast friends, while cherishing memories of her 52-year marriage to Otis Wayne Brown.
