Life & Legacy

Elizabeth 'Betty' L. Shelton crafted a life rich with dedication to family, faith, education, and the simple joys of card games and baseball, leaving an indelible mark on her Kokomo and Westfield communities through her steadfast spirit and unwavering support for those she loved.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Earl George and Regina Becklenberg, Betty embarked on a journey that blended Midwestern roots with Hoosier heartland adventures. She wed Robert Shelton in 1966, and by 1970, the couple had settled in Kokomo, Indiana, where she pursued higher education and built a fulfilling career in education administration. A devoted parishioner at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Westfield, Betty found delight in mastering the intricacies of Bridge, cheering passionately for the St. Louis Cardinals, and rarely missing a chance to cheer on her grandchildren from the sidelines of their athletic pursuits.

Betty earned her bachelor's degree from Indiana University-Kokomo in 1980, channeling her skills into a 18-year tenure as secretary at Darrough Chapel Elementary School, retiring in 2000. She also enriched the community as a former instructor at Indiana Business College, offering guidance and administrative expertise that supported countless students and staff.

Betty's world revolved around the enduring partnership she nurtured with Robert over nearly 59 years, a bond fortified by shared relocations and life's milestones. Himelick, Christina A. Himelick, Kaia L. Pantos, and Nikolas S. Pantos. Though she mourned the loss of sisters Dolores Becklenberg, Virginia Aubuchon, and Mary Dent, Betty's gentle encouragement and sideline enthusiasm wove her family into a tapestry of joyful, supportive memories.
