From his early days in Lafayette, Indiana, Jerry Buhler grew up in Mobile, Alabama, where he distinguished himself at W.P. Davidson High School as a standout student leader and athlete. Serving as class president, earning a spot in the National Honor Society, and heading the Key Club, he balanced academic prowess with on-field excellence as football quarterback, varsity basketball contributor, and baseball team member. His pursuit of knowledge led him to Georgia Tech for an honors chemistry degree in 1967, followed by a PhD in organic chemistry from Purdue in 1973, setting the stage for a career of profound impact.
Over three decades at Eli Lilly, Jerry ascended through key leadership positions in engineering tech services, quality control, diabetes care manufacturing, dry products, and IT transfer systems. His pivotal role in shifting the company's insulin production from animal sources to biosynthetic methods positioned Lilly at the forefront of diabetes treatment, benefiting millions globally with life-changing advancements.
