Born in Trenton, Missouri, to Russell D. and Julia R. Huff, Don cultivated a lifelong passion for mechanics from his early days tinkering with cars and competing in go-kart races. A proud graduate of Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis, he built a life centered on craftsmanship, adventure, and deep family bonds. His marriage to Edna Patterson in 1966 blossomed into decades of shared travels, lively parties, and cherished traditions like their iconic 500 Race Day celebrations, which drew friends and family together year after year until her passing in 2009. In New Palestine, Don thrived as the ultimate handyman, transforming his home and yard with endless projects that reflected his resourceful and joyful approach to life.

Family & Loved Ones

Donald D. Huff's legacy lives on through their family and loved ones:

  • Don was a loving father to sons Martin and Dale from his first marriage, and he embraced stepchildren Pam Sinclair (Vern), Barbara Fey (Keith), and Wayne Patterson. His family extended to 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, along with brothers Larry (Sarah) Huff and Dave (Janis) Huff. Preceded in death by his cherished wife Edna and daughter Paulette Squires, Don's home was a hub of warmth, where he delighted in hosting gatherings and nurturing relationships across generations.
