As a young man, he ventured to Indianapolis, where his diligent spirit shone through in hands-on pursuits. A devoted patriot, he honorably served in the United States Navy, channeling his skills into building and creating. Back home, Bud's days revolved around tending his vibrant garden, woodworking with precision, and savoring morning coffees with friends, always radiating a gentle, affable charm that drew people near.
Bud's expertise as a contractor and carpenter spanned decades, where his masterful woodworking and construction talents built not just structures, but trust and reliability among those who relied on his work. His Navy service added a layer of disciplined pride to his professional ethos, making him a go-to figure for quality craftsmanship.

Bud's world revolved around the joy of kinship, where he poured endless affection into moments with his wife Elizabeth 'Bunny' Rice, children Tammy Edwards, Craig Rice, Jeff Rice Howell, and Robin Watkins, along with grandchildren Tommy Spears, Andrew Cobb, Bailey Edwards, and Nicole Joret, plus eight great-grandchildren and a sprawling circle of stepchildren, step-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
