Life & Legacy

David Gwin Stevens crafted a vibrant life filled with infectious humor, rhythmic dance steps, and unwavering kindness, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to share in his world.

From his roots in Noblesville, Indiana, David emerged as a figure of warmth and wit, earning the playful moniker 'Spider' in his youth thanks to his lanky frame. A 1965 Noblesville High School alumnus, he embraced life's rhythms with gusto—whether spinning records, cheering for Indiana University, or sipping a classic Coca-Cola. His days brimmed with simple delights: sinking baskets on the court, outsmarting opponents at Euchre, diving into Stephen King thrillers, conquering video games, or savoring meals alongside companions. Yet nothing ignited his spirit quite like dancing, a passion that not only defined his leisure but sparked a profound romance with Rita Kay Veal, whom he met through the Indy Dancers group he co-founded.

David dedicated over three decades to Chrysler, starting in 1968 and retiring in 2001. Colleagues endearingly dubbed him 'Twig,' a testament to the camaraderie and lighthearted presence he brought to the workplace every day.

Family & Loved Ones

David's world revolved around the rhythms of togetherness, where shared dances and heartfelt gatherings wove unbreakable threads among his nearest and dearest. He and Rita Kay (Veal) Stevens, married since 1986 after bonding over Indy Dancers, nurtured a partnership rich in friendship and joy during their 39 years together. His surviving children—Kimberly S. Winkelman (Martin), David G. Stevens II, Robert M. Alexander (Carol), Christina L. Alexander, and Phillip S. Alexander (Carol)—along with ten grandchildren, sister Julie L. Gray, and brothers Christopher R. Stevens, Michael K. Stevens (Valerie), and Jeffrey A. Stevens (Helen), were the recipients of his boundless affection. He also held dear his many nieces and nephews. Preceding him were parents Ralph and Betty Lou (Brown) Stevens, daughter Andrea D. Stevens, sister Rebecca L. Stevens, and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Remembered by Friends & Family

Echoes from David's circle capture a man whose wry jokes and gentle heart lingered in every interaction, with many recalling how his dance-floor energy and easygoing charm brightened ordinary moments into cherished highlights.
