Life & Legacy
Alberta Marie Broaddus crafted a vibrant life filled with creativity, adventure, and unbreakable family ties, leaving an indelible mark on all who crossed her path through her spirited pursuits and boundless enthusiasm.
From her early days in Indianapolis, Alberta embraced a world of wonder and activity. A standout at Broad Ripple High School as a cheerleader and spelling bee champion, she carried that energy into adulthood, channeling it into crafts like crocheting and jewelry design. She delighted in fashioning one-of-a-kind items, especially custom crochet outfits for her grandchildren. Her love for horses defined key chapters, as co-owner of Justus Stables and a skilled barrel racer. It was amid horseback rides—her on Babe, her future husband Jim 'Red' on Snicklefritz—that romance blossomed. An outdoors enthusiast, she roamed with the Capitol City Campers, venturing to Florida and Texas in her motorhome, always with dogs like childhood pals Peanut and Cisco, and later Baby Girl, by her side.
Alberta poured over two decades into the US Post Office, showcasing steadfast commitment before retiring. Alongside this, her role as co-owner of Justus Stables allowed her to nurture a community passion for equestrian life and open-air exploration, blending professional diligence with personal fervor.

Her expansive circle grew to encompass 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all enriched by her playful energy. Though she bid farewell to her devoted husband Jim 'Red' Broaddus and sons James Frank and Steven Michael, the warmth of those bonds endures in the stories they shared.
